Food was always decent. Friendly service. Open late. Location is convenient. Never had any really bad experiences here. Food was always fresh and tasty. Great place to stop in for lunch while shopping. Lots of nostalgic memorabilia lines the walls. Great atmosphere all around. I would recommend it for lunch.

We have been going there for a long time. It's nice to feel like you belong. Both Brianna or Aja serve us mostly. Usually Bri. They are more then just our waitresses. They are friends now. It happened because if the service we git and the attention they always give us. They know what we want and never do we have to wait for refills etc. great job Mel's. I hope you realize that if it were not for these great waitresses we wouldn't keep coming back. So much negative out there it's nice to be able to share positive.

After doing some shopping nearby I was in search for something to eat and the area had few dinning options so searching by ""Mel's diner pop up And I decided to stop in considering a diner usually has a variety of choices I order a cup of chili which was fine but a bit beanie and lacking meat . So I was told that they are known for there cheeseburgers and I love burgers! ( who doesn't ) the burger was okay a bit cold when it came out probably Been sitting for a short time. Then finally dessert I ordered their mile high pile which is obviously name for its size seriously 4 could eat out of it but I wasn't impressed it was mostly chocolate mouse and the crust was bland and flavorless. Mel's has been in the area for a long time but I'm uncertain why? Maybe it was just my experience. Burger was okay the rest I would pass on Maybe another try some day Mel's diner.

Good food & fast service. BBQ chicken sandwich was really tasty. Sanibel Salad which had salmon fillets on top was delicious my girlfriend said. Fried green tomatoes were a good order too. Place was very busy even at 2:00 pm after lunch period was ended for a while.

Good food. Reasonable prices. Had a delicous mediterranean omellette. My daugther complaint about the pancakes as being "gummy like"... My opinion ? Not fresh maybe bought at publix. My wife really loved her breakfast... Whats no to love about eggs and toast. Bottom line: I would go back and try something else... There was splenda and bottomless coffee...

AMAZING VALUE!! Great food at unbelievable prices and a very fun atmosphere/decor. Our waitress, Heather, was incredibly welcoming, warm, and attentive. Strongly recommend you go, and be sure to ask for Heather. Also, order the prime rib!

Meh. Server flew by, and said, "I'll be right wth you..."I said, "2 coffees. 2 waters"...hoping to save her a trip.. She barks back, I SAID, I'LL BE RIGHT THERE!!! And the good was ok... Nothing outstanding. No one at the front register.. I could have walked off with all those souvenir cups....lol Someone did show up & I did mention our server... He seemed to agree. She has an attitude.

On a whim stopped into Mel for a breakfast. We were truly disappointed. But first the good stuff: Jackie our waitress was quick and attentive. Though it was crowded at 1000 am Saturday. My eggs were cooked over easy and the Mediterranean omelet fine. The BAD. The so call breakfast potatoes was horrible. It was like au gratin recooked and burnt. The biscuits was mediocre at best. The Toast was wannabe Texas toast . My pork chop was dry and tasteless. Will I go back probable but never for breakfast.

Great friendly service and home cooking food !!! Highly recommend !!!! The decor is just like in the 50's. Kinda reminds ya of old time dinners... Love all the pics inside :)

Delicious food at a very affordable price. We were in town visiting and were very pleased with this diner. The fried chicken was delicious. Went back on our next visit in town and had a scrumptious Mac Cheese and Chicken dish.

Mel's dinner is a nice place for dinner. But our highlight of this evening was our waitress, Kat. She is AWESOME. When we go out, one big thing for us is the interaction with the employees. Kat was by far the greatest waitress we have ever had at Mel's. And we eat there often. The food is edible for the most part. Avoid Bill the manager. He is toxic. Don't try to change out a bowl of chili for the soup of the day. The up-charge is not worth it, and Manager Bill won't allow it to be served as it should be, with cheese and onion.

Another great breakfast at Mel's . Kielbasa scramble, home fries and toast...yum. This is the first place that did home fries the way I asked that they be prepared. The support our bible study by providing a quiet room with great service. This is the second breakfast at Mel's and will keep eating there. Try it, you'll love it! My wife and I truly do.

Ok, so I went back, as previously stated I wouldn't. It was a whim situation as I was in the area with someone. Well, It seemingly gets more confusing each time I've visited (this being my third). Today's venture sat us at the far end corner table next to the kitchen door. I want to know why they put booths next to the kitchen. It was awkward and it doesn't make things any easier for patrons. Especially since there was a rotting smell wafting out from the open entrance. Seriously. It was reminiscent of hot garbage coming from a trash collector bin on a 90 degree day. It only smelled bad when there wasn't anything major being cooked. Not that they weren't busy or anything. I kept seeing the same 2 waitresses run in and out the entire time I was seated. Another busser would join in the madness, but the place wasn't that packed. They were just understaffed, it seemed. But the smell went away (rather, masked) when big orders were being filled. Knowing this and not saying anything to someone doesn't make me right, but it did make me uncomfortable. The person I was with said they smelled it too, only further solidifying the need to not be here. Aside from the stench, how was the food? The water glass was slippery - like it wasn't rinsed properly.. or at all. I didn't want to touch it, but was glad I had a straw. The meal I ordered - Buffalo Chicken Sandwich - was okay. A bit heavy in the carbs. I ate half the meal and felt like I had a brick in my stomach. I think it was a combination of the fried chicken and all the blue cheese crumbles they loaded on it. There must have been a good cup of crumbles on that thing. All melty (and should have been) goody. The fries were pretending to be shoe strings, but were ice cold about a minute after receiving the order. I had asked for blue cheese dressing on the side, instead of ranch, but ended up with the latter instead. I questioned it, and was told "yup, that's ranch!" and was given the blue cheese a minute later. The person I went with ordered a half sandwich and cup of soup. Soup of the day was mushroom barley, and the sandwich was supposed to be turkey in a tomato wrap with lettuce, tomato, Craisins and some thing else. When it arrived, it was on toasted wheat bread and no soup. Asked where the soup was and the busser said "what kind". We told her the mushroom barley and it immediately got brought out. When our waitress came over, we said the sandwich didn't look like what we were supposed to get. Sure enough, it wasn't. So the right one came over (tomato wrap), and we were told that during the week it comes on the other bread. O...K... The soup ended up tasting like it had a cabbage soup base - not really what the person was expecting. I think she found 1 Craisin in the entire sandwich, and the lettuce was actually not in the wrap. All in all, it only proves why this was my third attempt there and both my party and myself agreed - truly, no more coming here.

Went to Mel's at 12:30 pm and wanted to order pancakes. I was told they stop serving breakfast at 11:30am. What diner doesn't serve breakfast all day?! Very disappointed so ended up at the IHOP.

Went here looking for a good Sunday morning breakfast place. Food was mediocre at best. Grits were watery and omelette was not so hot either. My husband and son had less nice things to say about their food. I guess the search continues!

Cute 50s style joint. Went for breakfast. Super friendly service. I think my waitresses name at the breakfast bar was Chris. She is a sweetie. Breakfast menu isn't complicated. Ordered a platter breakfast. Kielbasa wasn't grilled just heated so that was the only thing I didn't like about it. I like the skin crispy or grilled up somehow. Older patrons inside. Didn't see any younger folks but the locals know what's good, so not bad far as having bfast. Service for 1 was exceptional.

  • Craig M.

Burger was good. Strawberry shake was great. Ambience was non-existent. For a themed 50's type restaurant with pix of Elvis, Betty Boop, and James Dean adorning the walls, it felt more like a Dennys than anything else. As we walked to the door, barely audible relatively current songs played. Like your average radio station. Inside there was no sock hop music or even elvis playing. Just the same barely audible stuff from outside playing to a half full restaurant with a low energy staff. As we left I mentioned to the lethargic manager with the blank look that it would have been nice to have fun period music playing ... maybe even so we could hear it. She seemed to not get it and replied that there were a few elvis songs mixed in with 70's 80's 90's. Oh well, next time I can listen to my car radio and grill up my own burgers. I won't be back.

Mel's diner is a quite cute place. It's retro themed and the prices are more than fair. You can get all the typical American food and their really deliscious, especially for this price. last time we were there, party of 5, we pay only 60 bucks for 3 burgers, 4 fries, large wings, 5 drinks ( free refill with soft drinks, tea, coffee) and a large salad. Sure it's not an upper class restaurant, but you get good food, nice service, a cute themed place and all this for a fair price. We visit it every time we visit fort Meyers !

Came upon Mel's based on Yelp reviews. $3 bloody marys cant be beat. Eggs Benedict, tender ham, homemade sauce and excellent potatoes. Mexi-scramble was excellent. Served with salsa and sour cream, biscuit and Mels potatoes. Enjoyed looking at all the old stuff. Excellent service. Will definitely return.

Haven't been here in a long time & the home style turkey plate was delicious! Better yet, the $3.00 all day, every day margaritas, Bloody Mary & Martinis! Best way to start the week.

I was so glad we decided to stop here! The food was surprisingly Delicious! My bf even liked the gravy and he doesn't like gravy. Food was really good and the portions were perfect. Great prices! We had the chopped steak and country fried steak 3 course dinners. Both were excellent! The decor was neat. I was so pleased I even bought a coffee mug as a souvenir.

I do not understand how this place has stayed open for so long. 11/22/14 Took wife & granddaughter to dinner. Hostess seated us and gave gd crayons, but nothing to color. Asked if they had something. Oh yes, sorry. Showed up with the food. Ordered drinks and as I tried to order apps, waitress said she would be back. Then I ordered two apps, kids meal for gd, ayce fish for wife and waitress walked away. Called her and said I would like to order too. Oh. Pretty much everything showed up at the same time. Gd's was cold and our fish tasted as if it was cooked in warm oil and was very, very oily as a result. I asked about it and was told "that is the way we serve it". Cole slaw below average and ff were barely warm. I think it was sitting on shelf while waitress was talking. Never again.

Nothing special here, the food is alright , but unimpressive. Went for dinner and won't be back. Service is spotty and rushed. Food ...well cookie cutter bland! But if your looking for a inexpensive place with absolutely no frills .. You found it!

Where to begin? After driving by several times over the last week, we decided to pop in for a late breakfast. Bad choice. Our waitress started out good enough, brought coffee and waters right away. Unfortunately, the only sweetener options were sweet & low or sugar, we're Splenda people, but no fault there, they can offer what they choose. :) I asked if we could substitute toast instead of the sausage on a cake and eggs order, figuring bread costs less than sausage so no biggie, right? (Especially when the restaurant brags on their placemats that they'll do all they can to accommodate you.) Nope, "the manager doesn't allow us to do that." Ok, no biggie. I order the cake and eggs with scrambled and blueberry pancakes, the hubs can have the sausage. The hubs goes for the same with over medium and banana pancakes. The food came out quickly, can't complain there. But...no bananas for him, and awful is the only word I can use to describe the runny scrambled eggs. We would have asked for his bananas, if we'd seen the waitress again before we were 3/4 of the way through the meal. No refill offers on drinks, no curiosity about how our meal was. We physically moved our plates to the edge of the table to let her know we were ready for our check and still waited about 10 minutes...just to have to ask her to remove the extra charge for bananas we didn't get. Over all, not worth our time today.

Went here for breakfast. Food was okay. Nothing great but not terrible. I hated having to walk through the kitchen to reach the restrooms. Our server was absolutely hateful. She was awful. If we did return we would make sure not to sit in her section.

Had dinner here and ordered their small prime rib ($10.99 as I recall). Service was prompt and efficient, food was good and prices are very reasonable. If you're looking for good food, family atmosphere and good prices, this is the place!

Bad food, horrible service, and what is that stench? That basically sums up this miserable experience. Don't walk but run away as fast as you can. If you stay, you totally deserve the indigestion to follow.

What's really wonderful about Mel's is that you're not expecting it. I had a steak sandwich that was way above and beyond any steak sandwich I've ever had anywhere else and the prices were right on.

Love this place, there use to be one where I lived but it closed a few years ago. It's a good atmosphere, friendly staff, food is delicious and not over priced. A place you can bring the kids and not break the bank. Big selection of food on the menu

Perfect dinning area, later at night or early in the morning it's always good. But tonight the prime rib, too much fat and the ribs too much sauce covering the bones. I wouldn't order that again. My husband and I come here often but tonight was their off night I guess.

  • Jen S.

Nothing fancy, but very clean and tasty and reasonably priced. Just watch out for the ventriloquist and her weird puppet... don't make eye contact and she won't come over to your table. John Henry used to eat breakfast here.

  • Abbey N.

Sit in Jackie's station - she is the BEST! Food was good, service was OUTSTANDING! Jackie had things to our table before we even had the chance to ask :D What annoyed my DH - his egg whites were cropped and he was charged $3.18 for a double expresso (they charged doubled the $1.59 per shot cost which isn't common), the toast was a bit small. But the home fries were fabulous, the coffee was good, the expresso - even at that price - was good, all in all this was a great breakfast stop on our way out of town,

  • D M.

I usually always love going here for comfort food and great desserts, but this time the server(waitress) was just bad. Don't recall her name, but she has dark hair, black glasses and pink bows in her braided hair! We came in for dessert after a big meal downtown like we have many times and she shunned us the whole time. Never had a problem with other servers before, actually had another one come to the table and check on us with a smile! I usually dont leave bad reviews for servers, but I serve and it can be a great experience meeting different people, so I think some servers need to get out of the profession or leave there problems and attitude at home! You are the ones that are giving good servers a bad name!! Customers are who pay us!

I was in Cape Coral visiting a friend today and was told Mel's was a good place for breakfast. When I pulled into the parking lot I couldn't find a place to park. When I finally did, I walked into the place I was amazed at how busy the place was and how well organized and clean it was. My breakfast was delicious and the waiter was from Bolivia I believe and provided great service. It's a shame the place isn't closer to where I live. I would eat there all the time. A+++ for this place. I hope I can eat lunch there one day.

Had a wonderful experience here! Excellent, friendly and attentive service with a great bustling diner atmosphere. Food was delicious and my malt was perfect. Will definitely be back for breakfast tomorrow, and I need to save some room for the pie! My only critical observation is that the lunch staff seems to be more friendly than the one's on breakfast.

Mel's is one of the places in our Sunday after church breakfast rotation. Decent diner type food at typical prices. Can get busy during season. The gal ventriloquist there on some Sundays is great if you have kids, although younger ones may actually be afraid of it.

The servers are from another country or something, they hardly speak English and are very rude. When we asked to speak to the manager the OWNER came to our table. She was just as rude and just as hard to understand. To top things off The food is mediocre at best, not even worth the low prices and place was dirty. Their location in Bonita Springs is just as bad!

We stopped in for dinner after reading the reviews on here. I was very disappointed! I ordered the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and my husband got the chicken fingers. My meatloaf was awful! It seemed to be over processed and salty. Potatoes were fresh but the side vegetables were mushy peas and carrots from a can! The chicken soup was great! My husband said his chicken was tender with a crispy crust but the crust needed some seasoning. Decor was fun but the place had a funky smell when we walked in. Not impressed at all.

Arrived for lunch and was seated promptly. Nice retro decor. Greeted quickly by our friendly server. Lots of options on the menu. Chose the Asian Chicken Salad. Arrived in good time, as the restaurant was quite busy. Big salad w/ lots of chicken. Ginger dressing was a bit too sweet for my tastes, but a decent salad. I would probably not order it again. The traditional 'diner' food here looks great though. All in all, I would recommend Mel's, but not if your seeking low cal fare.

After hitting up the flea market, we were hangry. We saw Mel's Diner and decided we would have eats there. It was a little disappointing you couldn't order breakfast 24/7. Diner to me means breakfast all around the clock, but that's the Jersey girl in me. However, the menu was fabulous and it didn't take long for me to decide on beer battered onion rings, sweet tea and a chicken mozzarella basil sandwich. Hubby ordered a chicken sandwich and mozzarella sticks, with Sprite. The food was cooked perfectly and Aja is a top-notch server! Give the girl a raise! Five stars!! She was attentive, sweet and actually conversed with her customers. Next time we are in town we will be sure to stop by and visit Mel's. Hopefully we will be blessed enough to have Aja as a server or someone at least close to her level of excellence.

It has been two years since I've been here, got the rack of ribs in hopes they were as good as I remember (have bragged they are as good as any in fl, if not the best). They did, definition of fall off the bone, sauce was fantastic as well. Only 10.99 on wed, which is insanity. Got the key lime pie with whipped cream for desert, fantastic as well. Service was great as well.

This funky little joint was right next door to our motel and how convenient! We strolled in late and had breakfast. Kara was our waitress and she was quite the entertainer. Quick with her witicisms and snappy comebacks. Kind of a modern-day Flo...I had the Bacado omelet which was a bacon and avocado omelete with cheese grits and whole wheat toast. It was a huge hit with me! Lots of avocado and lots of bacon. Huge portions. The cheese grits were awesome! Just like I used to eat down South many years ago. A great value and a great experience for a chain. I will definitely go back again should I run into another Mel's.

Where's the best breakfast for a morning after photographing a party - Mel's. We decided to go a tad bit out of our way to try out this fifties inspired diner, and we really don't regret it! The diner is fun and funky inside and out! Also, very importantly, It's clean and fresh. Although we were the only ones of our age group in the restaurant (among the many elderly), the waitress was extremely nice and accommodating. She made great suggestions and was very tentative. I ordered the Belgium waffle with a simple sprinkle of powdered sugar, and it was delicious! Can't skip out on that treat, I have never seen so many people at a diner that ordered Belgium waffles - so it's reputation is known... My boyfriend ordered the omelet, potatoes and biscuit. He did not regret that choice either, he says it's one of the best omelets he's had and gobbled it up! :D The potatoes were not greasy, just a tad over seasoned, but that is better than being under seasoned sometimes. The biscuit was delicious, but of course if you've had a cracker barrel biscuit Mel's just doesn't match up! lol Overall, the service was great, the food was amazing, the coffee was good as well. I would absolutely come here again if I had the chance =] Next time I shall try the pancakes, they looked mouth watering!

From an out of towner's perspective... Stopped in for lunch, with a friend, on our way to Sannabel Island. Overall experience was average, nothing spectacular. My friend ordered the 12.99 rack of ribs but was crazy about the generic BBQ sauce. The fifties memorabilia added some nice flair. Good place to stop in for lunch/dinner on a budget.

I have not been there or awhile so we thought we would try it on Sunday AM. The kitchen was having big time problems. They lost 6 tickets and it took over an hour to figure it out. Once we got it, it was OK but we were overcharged for breakfast. Too bad I used to like this place.

    (1)
  • Carey S.

Meh. Portions are large. Two kids could share a kid's meal. However, the kids hamburger was dry and tasteless as was the chicken on my Sanibel Island salad. Service was prompt, but we were seated close to the kitchen, which means wait staff was hurrying but.

  • Brian B.

Good place for a decent breakfast. It not fancy but they are solid "diner" breakfasts, which is what you would expect. Properly cooked eggs, and the sausage is pretty darned good. The biscuits and gravy are good, but not great. If you looking for someplace and you are on 41, its good place to go.

    (3)

Love this place! They give you huge portions & the food is cheap! Bonus is they have cheap drinks & cocktails. The kids get a free sundae with their meal. My fave is the burger!

I'm from Chicago and was here in Florida for my sisters wedding. After eating at a bunch of disappointing locally recommended places, 7 of us stopped here for a late breakfast. We were all impressed with the food, service, and prices. Very kid friendly grub too, a good thing since ours are picky eaters. All of our food was great, but the chicken fried steak really stood out. Our waitress (Jackie maybe?) was awesome and really made sure we were well taken care of.

50's inspired diner with a really cool interior. The front counter is a 1950s car. The staff could not have been nicer! Sweet, prompt service, and the food was good, too. Typical diner food, minus the creepy greasiness you find at most diners. The mile-high pie looked really good, but we just didn't have room for it after our lunch. This place is a must for breakfast or lunch if you're in Fort Myers.

We are visiting from Minnesota and are always looking for fun places to eat that are outside of chain resturants. Mels was just that place! We went in on a busy Sunday afternoon for lunch. OH MY THE FOOD WAS DELICIOUS! On top of that, our waiter was very personable, and had a great sense of humor. To make thing even better, we got our meals, all three of them, two burgers and a sandwich, all within 10 minutes. Impossible? No. Everything was cooked to perfection! A fantastic way to start our vacation!

Have been back a couple of more times for breakfast. As stated before, we miss the breakfast specials that they featured last year. There were some great values back then. Now what they call "specials" are rather high priced and low value meals. Therefore we are reducing our rating by one star.

Had breakfast at Mel's. Biscuits and gravy with scrambled eggs and home fries. The biscuits were good, but the gravy tasted a little greasy. Eggs were fine and the home fries were really good. Good average breakfast. Other plates of diners looked good and prices very fair. Will try again without the gravy.

Loved this place, had the Friday night fish platter, the Cod was good, reminded me of a Friday night meal up in Eagle River Wisconsin. The staff was very nice, the owner very friendly, the owner even prints on the menu Worlds greatest staff. How about that. I saw a few negative posts above from the penny pinchers. If your hot over one dollar, maybe they should eat at McDonald's. Come to Mel's, lots of neon, and old license plates. Spotted one from our ex governor who will soon be out of jail.

2nd visit this time during the lunch rush. My special Chicken Parm was outstanding served with a side of linguine and garlic toast. Soup or salad 1st, my tomato bisque was great. Wife had 1/2 chicken salad sand & chicken noodle soup. She tired my chicken parm and wished she had ordered that. Carol the waitress was great, and the manager stopped by to check on us. Carrot cake again was perfect. 2nd visit and we will be back whenever in the neighborhood!

I've been wanting to stop here for some time and finally made it for breakfast. And, WOW, am I impressed - this is a great diner. The service was outstanding and the decor is decidedly 1950's - complete with Marilyn Monroe and Elvis pictures everywhere. Did they overdo it? Perhaps, a bit, but it's still very comfortable and pleasant. This is a chain, but I think it's locally owned. And the a/c was not blasting like it does in so many restaurants. The temp was just right. After all, we're not in Florida to freeze! The food? Good and reasonably priced. The eggs, grits, ham, English muffin, and coffee were all well above average. We'll return to this place...

Just finished a fantastic breakfast at Mel's! The country style steak and eggs were great. Nice big servings, good service, great food. Highly recommend!

Stopped in today for breakfast on my way to the airport. I had an omelette with homefries and a biscuit. Everything was delicious. The homefries were particularly yummy. I was happy they served Coke products as most restaurants in the area served pepsi. Service was quick and friendly.

The roasted pecan waffle was the bomb. Good portions, great service. They make a mean waffle.
